Well I have my roof pretty well locked up for the winter. I unlocked it last week and here are pictures of how it looks. Lots of stuff has started growing. There are some bare spots. I hope to increase the square footage by about 50 o 75 sq. ft. this spring. I want to concentrate on sedum that stays green all winter. I'm undecided about harvesting some of what I have. I will wait until May to see how things look then. I'm also thinking of growing some other stuff in pots. I really have not been able to tell if the green roof has effected my heating bill or not. My record keeping is not up to par on that.

These are images of the roof from March 28 2010. the roof came through the second winter in pretty good shape. One problem some of the dirt in the tray was blown out. the gai soil is so light that the wind picks it up and throws it around.'m at the extreme end of how little soil you can use. The problem is not so much with the health of the plants but with the wind conditions on my roof. It interesting that around Novenber the wind starts to really whip through my roof. For some reason it comes from the south. This has something to do with the way my house is situated in the city rather than a south wind because down on the ground the conditions are not the same.

June 2009

So my green roof made it through the winter.Everything has come back strong . I also ordered and planted another 80 sedum plugs from mountain crest gardens. I also added some stepping stones so I can do some weeding, crab grass has been starting to grow. It has rained almost every day in June so drying out has been irrelevant. I am worried about the chicks and hens some of them died in the fall from too much water. But so far so good. Above are more pictures from june 2009
